Who Is METEC Driver Training?
METEC operates with an independent Board of Management and a team of more than 30 qualified driving instructors. As a not-for-profit organisation, its focus is on road safety education and practical training that helps drivers build lasting skills—not simply prepare for a driving test.
Participants receive professional instruction covering road laws, safe driving practices, hazard awareness, vehicle control and responsible decision-making. METEC works with individuals, families, schools, businesses, government organisations and other road safety bodies throughout Melbourne and Victoria.
A Purpose-Built Closed Road Driver Training Facility
The METEC complex occupies approximately 25 acres in Bayswater North and includes 5 km of private, closed roads. The road network contains realistic features such as traffic lights, intersections, roundabouts and rail crossings, allowing inexperienced drivers to practise in a controlled environment away from public traffic.
The facility also includes a large car-control area and a dedicated 4WD training track featuring hills, slopes, changing surfaces and small water crossings. These areas support learner training, defensive driving courses, school programs, corporate driver training, towing practice and off-road instruction.
The closed-road facility can also be hired by arrangement for road safety research, film production, car club events, vehicle testing, dealership launches and corporate activities.
