What will you learn?

Our Expert Driving Instructors will provide you with information to help reduce the risks you could face when driving in remote off-road locations, and you’ll receive practical instruction on the specifically designed, METEC 4Wheel Drive Training Track at our Melbourne facility.

Our Off-Road Course features actual hills, slopes and small water crossings, and is exclusively geared to show you (and your vehicle) a first-hand understanding of what you can and should not tackle.

What You Will Practise on the METEC 4WD Track

Your instructor will introduce practical techniques designed to help you assess terrain, understand your vehicle and make safer choices off road. Training includes:

  • 4WD mode and handling characteristics — understand how your vehicle responds in off-road conditions.
  • Wheel placement and vehicle positioning — practise placing the vehicle carefully on uneven terrain.
  • Key starts and stall stops — learn controlled responses when starting or stopping on the track
  • Steering, raking, skid control and brake control — develop more controlled inputs in changing conditions.
  • Hill ascents and differing surfaces — experience METEC’s hills, slopes and small water crossings in a supervised environment.

The focus is safe 4WD driving, practical skill development and knowing what you—and your vehicle—should not attempt.

    Our METEC 4X4 Driving Course has been configured to suit a range of vehicles and conditions and provides you with an ideal opportunity to practise ‘off-road’ and increase your sense of safety, skill levels and techniques to help ensure you get home from your next driving adventure in one piece. Whether you like to drive out in the bush or up into the snow, this course will give you the driving skills to get along most bush tracks in rural Australia.

    All of our training is conducted by our hand-selected road training experts who are Fully Qualified and Registered Instructors.

    Participants for this course must have their own insured vehicle.

    METEC are also proud to offer Certified Courses for commercial and industrial application for an additional fee.

    METEC’s 4WD and off-road course is delivered at 112 Colchester Rd, Bayswater North VIC 3153. Our Melbourne training facility is at the gateway to the Yarra Valley and within easy reach of Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs. The site is just under 15 minutes from the Canterbury Road exit on EastLink.

    Training takes place on METEC’s specifically designed 4WD track, where participants can practise on hills, slopes and small water crossings in a structured course environment.
