METEC’s driver refresher course for seniors is specifically tailored to assist senior drivers with continuing to drive safely.
What does the course cover?
Our refresher course covers new road rules and provides education and practical advice around issues that could impact your driving ability as you get older. Our safe driving course for seniors is carried out in our METEC driving school classrooms and on the public road with one of our experienced instructors in the vehicle.
Even if an older person has always been an excellent driver, the ageing process does present some potential issues:
an older driver is more likely to have some medical condition that reduces their ability to drive safely. Medicines may also increase crash risk.
It takes an older driver longer to respond to a situation than a younger driver.
Older drivers are more likely to be involved in collisions at intersections and on multi-lane roads where they fail to select a safe gap in the traffic.
Vision and hearing are not as good as they used to be. Older people often suffer more from the effects of glare from sunlight or from headlights as they get older. Hearing changes so they have more difficulty hearing high tones.
METEC’s driver refresher course for seniors is a great way to keep fresh behind the wheel and help keep you safe and mobile. We feel that having an older driver participate in a voluntary course run by an experienced local driving school is more preferable as the person will not feel threatened that the authorities may take away their driving license.
So if you have some safety concerns about an older driver that is perhaps a friend or a family member, why not contact us to disucss a refresher course?
